Laguna Road is a California Distinguished School!

Acacia, Laguna Road, and Robert C. Fisler Schools have been named 2019
California Distinguished Schools by the California Department of Education. This is the state’s
top honor for public schools and recognizes outstanding education programs and practices.
Statewide, 323 schools received the honor for closing the achievement gap and achieving
exceptional student performance. Fullerton Schools District has three of only 35 schools
recognized in Orange County.

One component of the California School Recognition Program, the Distinguished Schools
program recognizes schools based on performance and progress on the state indicators as
specified on the California School Dashboard. Indicators include test scores, suspension rates,
and conditions and climate. Elementary schools and middle and high schools are recognized in
alternate years; therefore, awardees hold the title for two years.

“We are proud of the hard work and dedication of Acacia, Laguna Road, and Fisler Schools for
receiving this recognition from the State. The accomplishments of the students, staff, and
families of our district work in concert to do an amazing job and Acacia, Laguna Road, and
Fisler Schools have earned and deserve this prestigious recognition,” said Dr. Robert Pletka,
Superintendent of Fullerton School District.

“These outstanding schools don’t just educate students; they also provide the young people of
California the tools they need to be successful after graduation,” Thurmond said. “Thanks go to
all the staff at these schools—teachers, administrators, classified employees—and parents, who
are working together to provide high-quality educational experiences for all of their students.”
The Fullerton School District is located in northern Orange County, California and serves just
under 13,000 students in grades TK – 8th. The Fullerton School District includes 20 schools, 15
elementary schools, two K-8th grade schools, and three middle schools. The mission of the
Fullerton School District is to work collaboratively with the community to provide an innovative,
high-quality educational program for all students in a safe learning environment. The District
motto, “Great Schools - Successful Kids” exemplifies the belief that all students will achieve
academic excellence, acquire interpersonal skills, and develop technological expertise to
contribute as productive citizens in a democratic society. For more information, call 714/447-
